The Abbey on the Great Glen
Guarding the Great Glen on the shores of Loch Ness, Fort Augustus Abbey has a long and often turbulent history that stretches back to the days of Culloden and Bonnie Prince Charlie. In 1876 the Lovat Estate leased the ground to a Benedictine Order of Monks who built a Monastery and later a school.

Minutes from the apartments the very pretty village of Fort Augustus lies on the banks of the Caledonian Canal, with a succession of locks and a wonderful swing bridge that takes boats onto Loch Ness.

The original wooden boathouse in The Abbey has been converted into the waterside Boathouse Restaurant offering magnificent views of Loch Ness (as this is privately owned we have no control over the opening hours). Other restaurants are just within a 2 minute walk in the village of Fort Augustus.
