Things to do

Centrally located in the Highlands of Scotland and mid-way along the Great Glen, you will be well placed at any of our properties to enjoy all that the this beautiful area of South Loch Ness, has to offer.

Many of our properties are in Fort Augustus on the southern shores of Loch Ness, with Inverness (to the north) and Fort William (to the south), both just under a 1 hour drive away. Other accommodation options we provide outside of Fort Augustus are located close to other beautiful lochs along the Great Glen such as Loch Oich and Loch Lochy.

Heading south towards Fort William you can take a small detour and enjoy the superb views from the cable car at Nevis Range, as you reach the top of Aonach Mòr mountain, walk up Ben Nevis, and, in the winter months, try your hand at skiing or snowboarding.

In Fort William there is also a bowling alley and soft play area for the children to enjoy or you could take a trip on the popular Jacobite steam train to Mallaig (as featured in the Harry Potter films).

On the way to enjoying the shops in Inverness you can stop and admire Urquhart Castle, or search for Nessie at the Loch Ness Visitor Centre.

By taking a small detour at Drumnadrochit you will soon find yourself in Glen Affric, said to be one of the most beautiful Glens in Scotland, with it’s scenic walks and Loch.

Just outside of Inverness is Chanonry Point where you will have a chance to walk along the beach and look for the dolphins who are regular visitors. Beauly is nearby, a lovely wee town with shops and a very interesting Priory.

The drive to the Isle of Skye is (in our opinion) one of the most beautiful in Scotland, taking you through the Kintail mountain range. On route, Eilean Donan Castle is definitely worth a visit, as is the beautiful coastal village ‘Plockton’.

In the winter months The Highland Club is perfectly placed for your winter ski holiday, just a 45 minute drive to the slopes of Aonach Mòr.

Fort Augustus Golf Club is in the village where you can hire equipment and is suitable for all abilities.

There are also plenty of places to eat, many beautiful walks and all this just a two minute stroll from the centre of Fort Augustus village.

Other activities nearby include horse riding (for the novice or experienced rider), cycle paths, distilleries, wildlife safaris, fishing and boat trips on to Loch Ness.

Popular local distilleries to visit include:

You will be spoilt for choice, so if you can’t do everything in the time available, you’ll just have to plan another holiday with us at Aonach Mor!
